What does the Averaging setting do?

Averaging is a setting on the Event Screen.

Should I Care?

Generally not. It's a non-standard feature. You can leave it on the default setting (None).

Options

  • None (default)
  • Average: average points for all races actually sailed.
  • Combined: allows an event within an event. Sailors can choose average points or the normal points system.

Why it exists

This feature was included to make radio sailing more accessible to people that are unable to sail a complete event. Mostly used for club days, to allow those that need to sit out races (for health/age etc reasons) to compete on an equal basis with those that can sail more (or all) races.

The Combined setting has been used successfully to score regional regattas. It allows sailors, who might otherwise be daunted by a major regatta, to participate at their own level. It works fine with HMS.

Notes

  • If you do introduce this to a major event, we suggest that sailors are still encouraged to know the rules. We don't want them messing up a sailor who is contending for the big medals!
